Ten things you can look forward to during EXPO 2021

With Expo 2020 just around the corner, we are excited as you are for the 6-month world-uniting celebration, featuring future-shaping technologies, innovation, as well as food and culture from over 190 participating countries. Running until March 31st 2022, The huge event will see countries from all over the world exhibit their vision and plans for the future, through a uniquely designed, architecturally extravagant pavilion. With so much to look forward to, here are ten things we are super excited to see and experience ahead of Expo 2021.

  • Expo 2020’s stellar entertainment line-up brings you Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman’s pioneering women’s ensemble, the Firdaus Orchestra; Bollywood sensation Sonam Kapoor; and one of the Arab region’s most celebrated singers, Ragheb Alama.
  • Encompassing sounds from across the world, additional music highlights include acclaimed Italian pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi; New Zealand band Six60, who were labelled the biggest band in the world during COVID due to being able to play concerts to tens of thousands of people in their home country; acapella music from Croatia; and the Expo House Band, who will delight guests daily with their global musical prowess.
  • Expo 2020 will take audiences on a whirlwind tour of some of the world’s most captivating dance styles with unique and evocative storytelling, including the famously slick moves of the Russian Bolshoi; an African Circus and Dance Extravaganza by the Sarakasi Allstars; and three-time world hip-hop dance champs, The Royal Family who soared to fame when they appeared in the music video for Justin Bieber’s Sorry.
  • With calligraphy-inspired benches, an open-air exhibition that brings together never-before-seen artworks by 11 leading artists – including Kuwaiti visual artist Monira Al Qadiri, Icelandic–Danish artist Olafur Eliasson and British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare – and cultural showcases from the likes of Guinea, Malaysia and Uganda, the Expo grounds will be transformed into a living, breathing art gallery.
  • Film buffs can enjoy movie nights, immersive theatrical experiences and a 15-minute theatrical projection, The Boy and The Horse – a tribute to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with a message of believing in oneself.
  • With an amplified sports and wellness programme, fitness fanatics will get to chance to meet their football and cricket heroes, discover new – and curved – ball sport teqball, and partake in daily fitness sessions at Expo’s Sports Fitness and Well-being Hub, which promises to be a hive of endorphin-elevating activity. Visitors will also have the opportunity to witness the world’s largest Brazilian jiu-jitsu lesson and to see iconic basketball exhibitionists the Harlem Globetrotters in action.
  • In a programme that is as diverse as it is inclusive, Expo 2020 will pay homage to UAE poetess Osha Bint Khalifa and introduce you to the sharpest minds on this planet as they clash in the World Chess Championship.
  • Get ready for a culinary explosion as Expo reveals award-winning chefs and brand-new dining concepts across 200-plus eateries. Together with Local Gems and Born at Expo restaurants, many internationally acclaimed restaurants will make their Dubai debut at Expo 2020. Expo’s celebrity chef line-up includes David Myers, Matthew Kenney and Mory Sacko.
  • Expo will also introduce an exciting range of bespoke food concepts including Alkebulan African dining hall, curated by former opera singer-turned-restauranteur, Alexander Smalls, which features 11 chef-led concepts from across the African continent; Taste of the Gulf which celebrates the region’s rich culinary heritage; and Talabat, a cloud kitchen with a fleet of riders from the food delivery platform; delivery robots and robotic baristas.
  • Together with a celebration for each of the 191 national days, countries will also be honouring a variety of international days. Mexico will reunite the living and dead in Dia De Los Muertos, a technicolour display of fireworks will burst across the sky during Hindu festival Diwali and Expo will invite the world to rejoice in the most wonderful time of the year during the Christmas season.
