Eight Documentaries to Shake Up Your Home Viewing

Thanks to COVID-19, people around the world are turning to documentaries in record numbers. Even those who aren’t really a fan are choosing the odd documentary when they’re done binge watching their favourite shows. Here are some of the most popular (or just really unusual):

1. The Last Dance

Spoiler alert: If you haven’t heard about this one yet, it has nothing to do with dancing. It’s a documentary of basketball legend Michael Jordan’s last season with the Chicago Bulls. Hard to believe that was way back in the 90s.

2. Tiger King

This is a crime documentary miniseries about a zookeeper who calls himself Joe Exotic. Kind of a combination of a big cat show and Jerry Springer, with murder-for-hire, drama, and larger-than-life personalities.

3. Cheer

If you’re ready for something bouncy and perky (and super competitive), Cheer might fit the bill. Join cheerleading team the Navarro College Bulldogs on their season to the National Cheerleading Championship and decide for yourself if cheerleading is a sport.

4. Be Water

For physical feats of an entirely different kind, watch Be Water, a documentary about martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. The film covers his life according to those who knew him best, as well as his activism and challenges.

5. Hillary

American politics is always entertaining—and slightly confusing—to the rest of the world. This documentary explores Hillary Clinton, wife of former president Bill Clinton, and opposition to Donald Trump in the 2016 US Presidential Election.

6. Babies

Just what we need right now: adorable footage of other people’s babies. This Netflix original definitely has some adorable moments that we can all enjoy without having to change a single diaper.

7. McMillion$

McDonald’s, Monopoly, and a $24-million dollar fraud case? What could be better?! (We hear it even has crime-fighters and the mob!)

8. Spaceship Earth

In the 1980s, a billionaire and an artist-engineer decided to put a team of scientist together in a self-sustaining dome in the desert. Yes, this is real life, not a science-fiction plot! Find out what happened, and how those scientists lived to tell the tale.

Happy viewing everyone!
